Ashel and Abubakar performed their secondments at FGB in Italy.

Here is Ashel’s experience:

The staff exchange program by the ARISE project has been a very educative and amazing experience.

I am Ashel Sunday and I am a nutritionist at Kaduna State University. I also head the nutrition unit at the Barau Dikko teaching Hospital. I was seconded to Fondazione Gianni Benzi onlus in Italy, as an early stage researcher within the ARISE project. I was mainly involved in work package 2, that aims to implement eHealth technologies to support newborn screening programme in Nigeria, Kenya and Lebanon. My work focused on task 2.2 which entails centres organization analysis.

Duccio and the rest of the team of the Foundation were very supportive. I learnt how to analyse documents for research, laws/act on data processing with Antonella. I was introduced to ethics in research by Annalisa. Lucia was always there to help me in any way she could. Serena and the other members of the administrative staff were very supportive and provided me with anything I needed for my work. I celebrated my birthday in Italy and will never forget the love shown to me by the Foundation staff.

The secondment was well organized and all I can say is….. MOLTO BENE (very good).

Here is Abubakar’s experience:

I am a Health Information Specialist and Medical Librarian at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Kaduna State University, Nigeria. Within the ARISE Project my main focus was on work package 2. The objective of my work is to assess the needs of patients and health workers involved in SCD management. During my secondment at Fondazione Gianni Benzi onlus I was able to develop a study protocol, that will help in understanding and assessing the needs of patients and health workers involved in SCD management. Moreover, I proposed a library webpage, whose main aim is to collect, select, store and organize ARISE information resources in digital form and provide easy and remote access.
