I am Farida Ibrahim a medical laboratory technician working with haematology and blood transfusion barau dikko teaching hospital kaduna Nigeria , with a special interest in patient with sickle cell disease

Joining the ARISE project as a researcher was one of my greatest career opportunities which has equipped me with the necessary knowledge and skills in providing a standard and a reliable result. I was seconded to the cyprus institute of neurology and genetics. On work package 5 from may to June 2023.

My key focus was on molecular diagnosis of haemoglobinopathies. I observed different procedure for the detection of thalassemia, I have completed various online trainings such as the Sickle cell and Thalassaemia modules.

This experience has allowed me to identify possible changes that could be made to our own processes in the laboratory to help improve our ways of working and contribute to achieving the aims of the ARISE project.

Marios and the rest of the team of the molecular and genetic department (MGT) were very supportive.

Overall, I want to say many thanks to the ARISE team and both my hosting and sending institutions. It has been an absolute pleasure working with you all, thanks for all your contributions and hard work to ensure that my secondment period ran smoothly.
