The ARISE team along with partner institutions organised the first train-the-trainer workshop in Abuja, Nigeria from 11 th to 13 th September 2019.

The workshop aimed to enhance knowledge of professionals involved in the management of Sickle Cell Disease, with a focus on laboratory skills.
The theorical activities carried out mainly at the Reiz Continental Hotel, while the laboratory practical sessions were held at the IFAIN Laboratory.

A total of 50 participants attended the workshop and 27 experienced and knowledgeable speakers provided their informative contribution.
Professor Baba Inusa, Scientific Coordinator of the ARISE project, welcomed the participants and opened the workshop, providing a brief overview of the ARISE project.

During the workshop several key topics were presented and discussed, including an overview of Newborn Screening and Nigerian healthcare system and the crucial role of international collaboration.
Moreover, it was an opportunity to learn about genetic counselling, sample collection and logistics, information and data management and comprehensive care and follow-up care clinics.
The workshop was widely appreciated, and it was described as a fruitful learning and awareness event.
